Our Purpose

To share the collective skills-sets handed down by our tipuna, through like-minded, passionate parents, caregivers, and whānau who seek to create, develop, and/or implement initiatives and opportunities that will instil, and build the resilience, tenacity, confidence, and self-worth required to hold our rangatahi steadfast in the knowledge that their presence within their whanau, hapu, iwi and within our wider community is of high importance, and is paramount to their physical, mental and emotional health, and to the health of their whānau.

"A forest is created when trees cluster.

A cluster is formed when individuals draw near.

An individual reaches full potential when nurtured to do so."

[W. J. Wallace 2022]

Tūranga Taiohi Taiea Incorporated (TTT Inc.) is a safe learning space created by like-minded 'passionate', and highly skilled parents who share the same dream as our founder and Patron, to encourage our vulnerable, less fortunate, enabled and/or physically impaired children to be active and learn a variety of life skills.

TTT Inc. initially developed several projects using sports and recreational tools which were supported and voluntarily run by parents, guardians, caregivers, and other like-minded taiohi (youth) who had a passion for delivering, sharing and teaching their skills and life experiences passed down to them - mai ngā tīpuna, ki ngā tuakana, ki ngā teina.

We have THREE specific project criteria 1) Physical/Social Activity. 2) Resilience - mental toughness 3) Cultural engagement that is beneficial for ages 5yo to 24yo.

Gizzy Hoops, Mahi Wai Mahi Kai, H20 Worx was established in 2018 and uses basketball as a vehicle for building self-confidence, leadership, respect and kindness in tamariki and rangatahi across Tairawhiti. Gizzy Hoops was founded by Peips - Harriet Peipi by utilizing the struggles of her own children's life experiences and has developed basketball projects with YMCA Breakaway collaboration since 2019. Gizzy Hoops have since spread their wings to provide support and opportunity to our wider Ngāti Porou whānau.

This is an opportunity to empower and build youth confidence to learn new life skills, engage and interact with immediate family, their peers and new relationship  s with our wider communities in a safe environment.

Turanga Taiohi Taiea is administered by a committee made up of highly qualified and/or skilled whānau who have had children involved or have been involved in some way with this positive movement. 😊 TAIOHI TU KAHA, TAIOHI E TU.

On Friday 26th to Sunday 28th November 2021, a group of rangatahi here in Te Tairawhiti were blessed to receive your guidance. Thank you Kenny. Forever celebrated, cherished and loved.

Kenny 'coach mac' mcfadden

We wish to acknowledge the unwaivering, and staunch dedicated support of our youth movement, by the amazing Mr Kenny 'Coach Mac' McFadden.

Kenny was open to any initiative that involved helping youth to succeed. It is this mutual desire and passion that both Kenny and our founding Patron, 'Peip's Cuba-Stone' connected.

Thank you Kenny. Your memory will forever be upheld by your whānau here in Te Tairāwhiti, the first city to see the sun. From our whānau to yours, kei te mihi, kei te mihi.

Damian whitten

Humble, open and passionate about sharing his amazing skill sets acquired over time while working alongside the late, great Kenny 'Coach Mac' McFadden. Matua Damian Whitten has graciously provided one of what we hope will be the first of many coaching clinics here in Tūranganui-a-Kiwa.

We have no doubt that this is the beginning of what will be a long-standing, mutually beneficial relationship. We are incredibly blessed that you made the trek to share your skills with our rangatahi. Ka nui te aroha ki a koe Matua Damian.

Saturday 8th July 2022, Matua Damian Whitten sharing his passion and skills with our Manukura! Kei whea mai e te Matua!

Introducing the 'Mackey' sisters. Clockwise from left to right; Kōka Natalie, Kōka Maiangi, Kōka Ihipera, and at the very front, our Elite Women's Coach; Kōka Mel. Ataahua!

The mackey whānau

A family of strong māori women, led by an equally strong māori man. Introducing the Mackey Whānau who, led by their father, Matua Taka Mackey, are known within Tūranganui-a-kiwa for their dedication to the Art of Muai Thai Kick Boxing and their whānau focussed club, Rangataua o Aotearoa.

All four of these sisters are elite sportswomen, they are tough as nails and their respectful and dedicated approach to physical fitness is second to none.

We are incredibly grateful for their passionate and ongoing support of our youth movement, and we genuinely look forward to receiving all that they have to share with our rangatahi. Kei whea mai koutou e hine mā!
